About the Artist
Travis Lober is a senior at Cal State Long Beach. He is currently a senior who is majoring in print-making, which means he will be acquiring his Bachelors in Fine Arts. He initially came to CSULB to major in graphic design because he was accepted into the program, but enjoyed the hands-on experience more when he took a class for print-making. He is originally from North California but moved down for school. Ever since he was little, around ten years old, he has enjoyed art. He was influenced by his family who are also interested in arts. His father obtained a Bachelors in Fine Arts which encouraged him to pursue his art career. However, before becoming an arts major, he was a construction worker which he discovered his passion in tools. His artwork is filled with different kinds of tools.
In the gallery, each print is made in different shapes and has a different border around it. Each print has very similar color scheme: black and white. Most of the prints have colors contrasting each other which makes up the whole image. The theme of the gallery is about wood and tools. The prints are mostly all aligned together as well. The texture and surface of the painting is smooth. Each print next to each other flows very well together. In the gallery, the first thing to see is the center piece which was the title of the gallery and the creator.
Travis’s gallery, Work: It’s A Four Letter Word, was inspired from his job as a construction worker. He explained that just like the art he does now, is similar to his job from constructing. For example, he would be assigned to carve a block of wood in a specific way. With his artwork, each piece has a wood frame of its own. Since he is also very passionate about tools, he has incorporated a type of tool onto his prints and is the center piece of each frame. It took him about three whole years to finish his pieces. He is very passionate about art because he loves to express himself with imagery rather than with words.
I really enjoyed Travis’s artwork. I love how he incorporated everything he is passionate into his gallery. My favorite piece was his center piece of the gallery. I thought it really popped out compared to his other pieces. Although, like always, I loved listening to his story about how he came about with art, wood, and tools. Everything connected to each other very nicely and I loved the flow of it. I thought it was interesting how he was a construction worker prior to becoming an amazing artist. Also, his personality was very friendly as well. He was open to his interview and seem to enjoy it as much as the interviewers.
